Is It Easier to Bond With Baby Sugar Gliders Than Year Old Gliders

I have had my carbohydrate gliders for about 8 months now and they aren't bonded yet. I read it commonly takes just about 4 months. The sugar gliders are about a year and a one-half in age. They have gotten used to me a bit, but I was only wondering if information technology'south true that they are too old to bail.

Look what I found on Ebay

Are they bonded to each other, but not you?

There is no time limit on how long it takes to build a trusting relationship with your glider/southward. They all have different personalities, and bonding is different in fourth dimension and extent with all gliders. Keep working on your trust edifice techniques and put no limits on them, they will grow to trust you to whatsoever level they can.

Oh, and no they are not also old. My girls were about a year old when I homed them. Information technology took a while, but one was kind of mean, so I didn't spend that much time with them at start. After I trusted the boards (had been listening to PP due to an associate at the time that trusts them), I plant that my girl was just terrified. After learning how afraid she was, it made me look at her differently and I began building a relationship with my girls. It took a while, but we've come up a long way, with ups and downs. My boy was about four yrs onetime when I homed him, and he and I are coming along pretty well.

Aye they were bonded to each other, but not me. Did it take a while for your girls to bail with y'all?

I got my showtime pair, the girls in February 2012, Lulu & Skadoosh. Lulu was the 1 we idea was just the sos (spawn of satan). Skadoosh was more social and friendly. Lulu fleck, and bit hard, cartoon blood. Nosotros stopped bothering with them later on the first few weeks of her viciousness, other than the bones intendance and needs I provided. I was kind of disappointed and felt similar I made a huge fault. Just I had adopted these ii and to me that was making a delivery to them. And so I began to search on the boards to effort and find some support and aid. That's when I learned Lulu was "pouch protective" due to fear. She was in fact "whole cage protective", she literally would chase my hand out of the cage whenever I fiddled in at that place also long for her to stand information technology. Even placing food in the muzzle, if she was out and nigh, she would crab, lunge, hunt and even seize with teeth if I didn't remove my hand from "her" cage. I never learned to "take the bite" which had been suggested, but I did begin to not give up. I removed my hand from imminent danger, but go on going back until I succeeded touching her without being bitten. It was recommended to spend "pouch fourth dimension" with them during the day, with treats handy, which I did. Do cage visits offer licky treats, so to progress to "out of cage play" at night (evening or early morning okay too) when they were awake. I got into a 3 X/week routine for playtime in our glider-proofed bath. This made a world of departure. I never tried offering licky treats from my fingers, just when I did muzzle visits offering yogurt, I used a plastic spoon and started outside the muzzle bars. This was considering Lulu would attack my hand at first. After I could offer them the spoon inside the cage is when I began getting them out for "out of cage play". The playtime strengthened our relationship and trust building started to grow more rapidly. It's difficult to say how long this all took, partly because I wasted the showtime few weeks feeling discouraged, simply it was rewarding. All gliders are different, so fifty-fifty if I knew the exact timeline of my personal journey with my girls, it wouldn't necessarily reflect how yours will go. It takes time, commitment, consistency, and lots of love and patience. But, information technology is so worth it when you first seeing the first signs, fifty-fifty the small ones that they are beginning to trust you. Hither is a pic of me holding my Lulu after a boom trim, I can't remember exactly how long this was after working with them, simply pretty sure it was within the first twelvemonth I had them.

And speaking of "pouch protective". I had my girls in a hammock in the beginning, even before hearing of the "open environment bedding", and any piffling noise she heard when I went into the room I kept their cage in, she would pop her caput out to see what was going on. If I came near the cage, she would begin to climb out and then she could chase me away, I'm not exaggerating, she was self-proclaimed "Guardian of the Cage".

Well that must accept been quite a claiming. My sugar gliders will come up to me in the cage when they are awake. If I stick my hand in, they will come up up to encounter if I have a treat or something. They don't bite anymore, simply nibble sometimes. Do you recollect they are ready for playtime? And if so, how did you play with them? I'grand sorry if I'm asking too many questions.

No problem, we're all hither to share and support each other.

Commencement y'all need to designate a play area, a glider-proofed bathroom, small room, or a tent are most commonly used. I prefer the glider-proofed bathroom, make sure all things presenting a danger to your carbohydrate gliders are removed, particularly the toilet hat. If using some other small room, just brand sure in that location are no openings where your gliders tin escape.

You lot tin accept in a bicycle or other glider toys, but I recommend starting out with merely you as a toy. Sometimes I bring toys, most times I practice non, simply I usually merely spend about 30-40 minutes. My setup has varied due to the 2 moves I've made since I kickoff got my gliders, the last and present are not the platonic, then I have to modify a lot.

You can utilise fleece throws (remove stitching from edges)and hang them from towel confined, this makes a great "fleece wall" for them to climb. In my original bathroom, my gliders climbed my shower curtain, but where I live at present, they don't, and so I create a fleece wall for them. They volition beloved to climb high, and so you tin can stand nearby offering your shoulder or back for them to jump or glide to.

I will include some pics of my babies playing in my original bathroom, so y'all can see how much fun they had. A lot volition be mostly merely when I had the girls, but I may have a few after I added Ollie boy.

They loved playing with the hair brush in the bucket, lol

The play gym I made them for out of cage play sometimes.

Play gym again, you can see one climbing up the curtain.

Pitiful, so many, lol. I have then many pics from out of cage playtime and it's difficult to choose which to testify you. I guess you get the idea.

If you need a tent for out of cage play, most use the Genji screened tent.

Here are some playtime pics from tent, not every bit many as I accept in the bathroom, lol. At that place were many more pics from bathroom playtime I didn't mail, I haven't taken every bit many tent pics. These are by and large Ollie boy.

This is where they showtime out and spend a good fleck of time in the commencement, training me, lol.

Anyhow, I recommend getting an surface area together and brainstorm out of cage play with your gliders. If my babies are awake, I'll but open the cage door and they will usually come out and climb on me for a lift to the play area. If they're in the pouch, I just grab the pouch and take them to the play expanse in that, they unremarkably will come out soon afterward nosotros become to the destination.

Cheers and so much! I have to say, what you lot told me volition definitely help me. I will update you shortly lol, if you desire!

I would love to read updates.

My glider room in basement, its seven x 9 and has lots of stuff in information technology for the gliders. Non pictured is the 3 story LARGE playhouse, they dear information technology!!
Fleece ropes for climbing.

Nosotros started in the bathroom, get them used to us and easier to put dorsum in muzzle. the bathroom is smaller and makes them use us as part of the playroom, running and climbing on us.

BK, your gliders are lucky!

My dream was to take a home where we could section off an extra chamber by edifice a wall of PVC and landwire mesh or textile used for cage building. My dream was to attach frame work of PVC to the the walls, ceiling, and floor and so build screened panels, i including a door that could be bolted (removable) to the frame piece of work and each other. The program was to have it then I could take the panels exterior to clean real good a couple of times or so a year. I would keep cabinets and drawers with their toys and supplies stored on the other side of the sectioned surface area, along with a couple of chairs to take in for play time. I hadn't decided if information technology would be permanent enclosure or play time enclosure considering I actually savor them being in my chamber, but I oasis't had to make that conclusion as of all the same anyway since I'm farther from my dream than I was when I started planning it, lol.

Wow! Thank you for all the help from the both of yous! I programme to put lots of toys in my bathroom for playtime! And thank you for all the pics!

You are welcome. We dearest sharing pics of our fluff butts anyway

You may not demand to bring a lot of toys in the bathroom, just make certain all dangers to them have been eliminated. They will accept you and enough other things to explore. I exercise recommend having a nightlight, colored lights work best, this is and so you lot can keep an centre on them and know where they are. You don't want to stride on anyone. I made a night lite out of a minor strand of LED Christmas lights, I tucked them in a Dixie cup dispenser, you tin encounter behind a little shelf unit next to the white bucket in ane of my pics. I don't have information technology with me now, it's in storage, so I use a nighttime light app on my tablets for now, merely e'er looking into something better to use.

UPDATE***so I put some toys in the bathroom and they crawled on them a little flake. I put some treats around so they would explore the bath. I seemed to merely ever want to exist on me (her name is Splenda) and the other was a bit more than jumpy (her proper name is Ala). Ala would sometimes come on me and then jump off. My sister came in the room and fed them some treats, Ala stayed near me when my sis came in the room and Splenda a crawled on my sister a petty bit. Any progress?

DO BONDING Fourth dimension

REPEAT.....repeat.....echo....repeat.

some bond fast, some bail tedious, some bail very slow.

scarface will crab from pouch, will stop if I open up it up and pet him, just he volition pouch crab like crazy. In playroom he will clamber all over me, AND fifty-fifty groom my hair, but he will do it to difficult and it hurts BIG Time.

Yes, that'south how they acquire to trust you, at their pace equally BYK said. Go along information technology upward, and y'all will see changes, some may be small, then something big, it all takes time and may seem to to a footstep backwards at times. Do non fret if this happens, they're learning to trust. It sounds like you had a good beginning.

UPDATE****and so today, splenda and ala didn't want to get off me at all. They would come to my paw for treats, crawl on my arm, and esp. stay on my leg. They jumped off a few times just to examine a couple toys around me but so jumped correct back on me. I noticed when they got scared, well-nigh of the times they'd come up back to me. They are not a large fan of me trying to pick/scoop them upward with my paw. At one betoken they stood notwithstanding on my legs and let me pet them, and they started to get sleepy. Is what they did today a good thing?

It sounds similar it's going really well. Most gliders do not similar to be scooped upwardly, picked up, or held. Some do better when during thei sleepyhead hours.
