Black Ops III has been praised for having the largest and most impressive undead sub-story in the Call of Duty series. For players who are used to older games with less complex zombie-killing mechanics, this new entry can take a while to get used to. This article will teach you how to efficiently play the default zombies map Shadows of Evil in Black Ops III.

  1. 1

Get used to the controls. The basic mechanics are mostly the same as previous zombie games. Zombies will try to enter your zone through barricaded windows. Keep them out and save up points by killing them.

  2. 2

Turn into the Beast. The Beast is an alien form that players can temporarily turn into to do extra tasks. The Beast can traverse vast distances in quick time, open locked areas, revive players, and activate Perk machines. You can turn into the Beast by going up to any area marked by a chalice spewing purple fire and selecting "Turn Into the Beast".

  3. 3

Chomp down on some Gobble-Gum. Gobble-Gum is a new feature that gives you a temporary bonus perk. Gobble-Gum machines are scattered throughout the map.

  4. 4

Find the Mystery Box. Follow the blue light in the sky to find the Mystery Box and purchase a random weapon. Each weapon from the Mystery Box costs 950 points.

  5. 5

Open gates to get where you need to go. There are four directions you can go after opening the first gate, each path leading to multiple smaller courses (some activated by the beast).

  6. 6

Use the city transit. When in a pinch, buying a ticket across the map can save your skin. The transit will cart you all the way across the map, which can enable you to escape hordes or reach downed teammates.

  7. 7

Kill the bosses. Inter-spaced between rounds, there will be bosses even more dangerous than zombies popping up to kill you.

    • The Margwa is a gargantuan monster with three heads. It is very fast, and can kill you with one hit, so run and gun. You can kill it by shooting into its opened mouths (indicated by a bright yellow light coming from their insides). It appears in a round with zombies, so you can't devote all of your time to killing it.
    • Parasites are bug-like creatures that shoot hazardous yellow material at you. They are relatively easy to kill, but they are agile, and often dodge shots.
    • Insanity Elementals are meatball-looking creatures that roll around at high speeds and explode. They follow the same mechanic of R.A.P.S. from the campaign and multiplayer. They will detonate when close to players, but can be destroyed from afar. The best strategy is to book it away from them, occasionally stopping for 2-3 seconds to turn around and shoot some. Make sure not to run into a corner, as they pile up fast, making escape tricky.

Can I still die as the beast?

    Community Answer

I don't think you can, because the zombies don't really pay attention to you when you're the beast.

  • Zombies will not attack you while you are in Beast form.

  • You will return to the chalice where you first turned into Beast form once you turn back into a human.

  • You can buy another Gobble-Gum to replace the one you have if you are not satisfied with your purchase.

  • Unlocking doors, repairing windows, and reviving teammates will get you more points. Earning enough points will earn you Liquid Divinium.

  • You can customize weapons in the main menu that you can use in Zombies. Certain customizations make the guns more effective in combat against zombies. To customize weapons, you must use them a certain amount to unlock the customizations.

  • Gobble-Gum packs can be customized and equipped. You can also unlock new Gobble-Gumballs by purchasing them with Liquid Divinium earned in-game.

  • Build the Rocket Shield. This is a variant of the Zombie Shield from Black Ops II. It will protect your flank, and you can use it to bash zombies and send them flying.

Thanks for submitting a tip for review!

  • The Margwa will eventually respawn after being killed.

  • The Margwa will teleport to the location of the nearest player if there are no players in its general vicinity.

  • You can only use one Gobble-Gum at a time.
